August 2013 - Update

Sunrise in the Smokey Mountains!

Dear Family & Friends,

How has your summer been? They go so fast, don’t they? This summer God has given us the gift of wonderful fellowship with both our future and past ministry co-workers.

Our Tokyo team leader and his wife, Rob and Jill Stoddard, are home on furlough and they invited us to spend a week with them in Tennessee, along with another dear team member, Lisa Nishimura. What a wonderful time together! It was a great privilege to experience a foretaste of living and working side-by-side to the glory of God. Lord wiling, we look forward to arriving in Japan with our whole team by January 2014, when the Stoddards return to the field.

On the drive home, we stayed a night with some dear friends in Kentucky—Lucy and her son Brian. We first met Lucy in East Asia in the summer of 2006. She and her husband, George, hosted us on some of our first college mission trips and demonstrated to us how to share the gospel with those who have never heard of Christ and train them to disciple others.

We were shocked and saddened to hear that George passed away last year after battling stomach cancer. George is with his Savior now, and Lucy’s passion for others to have peace with Jesus remains strong. What a beautiful example of steadfast faithfulness to the Gospel! Visiting Lucy, and getting to know Brian better, was a precious reminder of our time in China and the relationships that have prepared us for future ministry, and also of what it means to live a missions-minded life.

So we look eagerly forward to our time in Japan, giving thanks for every person God has placed in our lives to help us grow and learn to sow His word. We don’t know yet what God has prepared, but we do know that His heart is for all nations to worship Him. Please join us in prayer for the Japanese!
